Description

The Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute is an oceanographic institute situated on the Île des Embiez. The island is in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in South Western France. The Institute was founded in 1966 in response to one of the first cases of industrial pollution in the Mediterranean, and since then has continued to protect marine life globally, and specifically in the Mediterranean. In the words of Paul Ricard's granddaughter, 'Through its research and public outreach activities, the Institute is addressing today's most pressing challenges: preservation of marine biodiversity, climate change, sustainable exploitation of living resources, and restoring coastal environments. As we race to save the Earth, the Ocean could be our second chance.'
