The French Institute of the Sea (IFM) is a public utility association which aims to "make the French know and love the sea" and 'to make them aware of the fundamental role of the oceans in all areas of the sea. human life and the great balances of our planet , as well as to work by all means for the sustainable development of France's maritime activities' The Institute is mainly known for publishing the Revue Maritime, a debate and opinion review and organizes conferences. The areas of concern and intervention of the Institute cover `` the 6 navies '': commercial, State, fishing, service, pleasure, and rescue and concern
