Marine conservation. Protection of marine life

Description

The Togean Conservation Foundation was established to help local communities, government, businesses, and visitors work together to protect the area’s biodiverse environment. Their primary aim is to deal with the major threats that damage these habitats before focusing on restoring them to their pristine state. Related projects to include: Crown of Thorns Control; Marine debris and pollution; Tackling illegal fishing (developing viable alternative for destructive fishing, spreading community awareness and lobbying for more effective enforcement); Coral and marine mammal protection; Mangrove restoration (mobilising community to replant deforested and damaged areas of mangrove and developing economic opportunities from intact mangrove systems while reducing reliance on mangrove wood)
