marinecultures.org initiates small-scale conservation projects, by supporting people on the coast of Zanzibar in the development of ecological aquaculture. Together with local communities and authorities they carry out activities to protect and restore marine ecosystems. The activities include: Growing natural sponges, Protecting and restoring coral reefs, Conserving fish stocks to combat overfishing and destructive fishing practices in order to create a sustainable use of marine resources. This includes closed seasons for octopus and no-fishing zones (marine protected areas).
