Description

Whale Wise studies populations using a variety of methods, in order to gain an in-depth understanding of each system. They currently research the interaction between whales and human activity in Iceland, working towards a sustainable whale-watching industry in Skjálfandi Bay in Iceland. 'We assess the response of blue and humpback whales to whale-watching encounters, with the aim of guiding a suitable conservation plan for both whales and people. Second, through citizen science, we engage with local communities, and fishermen in particular, to understand local whale distribution and the relationship between whales and people in Iceland' .
